What makes an evening long.
Where a city sits in its time zone
The further west in a zone, the later the sun sets by the clock. That is why Madrid leads the world and why Odessa, TX leads the US.
Summer time
A country that moves its clocks gets an hour of evening for about two thirds of the year. Most of Arizona does not, which is why its cities are among the lowest in the US.
How far from the equator
High latitudes trade dark winters for very long summer evenings, and the summer wins on this count. Near the equator the sun sets at about the same time all year.

Figures are for calendar 2027 unless a heading says otherwise, worked out with NOAA's solar equations and the IANA time zone database (version 2026e) at each place's coordinates from GeoNames. Sunrise and sunset put the sun's center 0.833° below a flat horizon, so hills move a real place by minutes. A working day here ends at 5 PM, Monday to Friday, on each city's clock.
